1: Booting into Windows

All of these instructions have been made obsolete. Please visit the “tweaks” page, for now, and follow the instructions there, until I’m able to properly update this page.

I’m not going to get into why you would want to do this, but the information is here, should you wish to use it. First, a disclaimer: I am NOT responsible for any possible damage to your device by following these instructions: it’s at your risk. That said, it worked fine for me, and many other people, so far.

  1. Install the ActiveSync software on the CD that came with the GPS.
  2. Download this file.
  3. Connect the GPS unit to your computer with the USB cable.
  4. On your desktop computer, navigate through My Computer, Mobile Device, MyFlashDisk, to the MobileNavigator folder.
  5. Copy the RegEdit.exe and modified.reg files (from inside the .zip file in step 2) to the above folder.
  6. Rename MobileNavigator.exe to MobileNavigatorOld.exe
  7. Rename RegEdit.exe to MobileNavigator.exe, wait a few seconds, and disconnect the USB cable.
  8. Perform a “Soft Reset” by pressing the button on the bottom of the unit, near the hidden “off” switch.
  9. Click “Navigator”. You should end up with the registry editor running.
  10. Regedit

  11. From the “File” menu, choose “Import”. Navigate to your modified.reg file and double-tap it.
  12. Perform another soft reset, and you should find yourself at the Windows desktop. (the shortcut to TomTom you see on the desktop I made myself later on)
  13. windows desktop on nav-cam

  14. Rename MobileNavigatorOld.exe back to MobileNavigator.exe (optional, but not recommended if you’re installing TomTom. See the TomTom installation page for details)

Now what?

Well, you can do whatever you like! Install TomTom, media playing software, games, etc…
