I'm curious if anyone has any information about getting NMEA format data out of the Nav-Cam 7700?

Ideally I'd like to get the NMEA sentences out the USB port, but I don't know if that is possible. I wouldn't mind replacing the navigation software with something else that can read the GPS com port and provide a simple text display on the device screen, while sending NMEA sentences out the USB port.

The primary problem here is that I don't know much about what is currently handling that USB port. Can the software on the device that connects to ActiveSync be disabled so that another application can take over the port?

If I can't do that, or if it is too dangerous (risking bricking the thing again) I'll consider opening it to piggy-back a connection on the GPS chip inside. I can route this out to an external connector to get the raw data from the GPS.

Can someone post information about development environments that can be used to write software for this device?

Thanks!

tector, I had to get mine replaced a while back (oct 07, see above) so they were still in business then. They used to be at www.lowestonweb.com, but that's broken right now. When I contacted them they sent me this:

> I suggest that you contact our US support team using
> the following details:
>
> Call toll free: 866-268-8515
> 9am - 5pm US Central Time Monday-Friday
>
> Email: usasupport@nav-cam.com
>
> Regards,
> Sam Price - Customer Support - Lowest on Web
> Tel: +44 (0)906 265 4000 (£1 per minute)
> Fax: +44 (0)1386 769796
> www.lowestonweb.com

That put me in contact with a servicing company located at:

Nav-Cam
123 Main Street
Manning, Iowa 51455

And yes, that is a real address. I received an RMA number and form from Linda at Nav-Cam Support. I shipped just the GPS unit and received back a replacement.

If you can't get an official replacement power cord you can probably find something off the shelf to do the job. If you still have the car charger you can measure the connector to determine what you need to look for.

Is there any way to make Windows CE recognize traditional Chinese in it?

I moved back to Taiwan and I downloaded tomtom's Taiwan Map pack, but I just can't get it to work...it won't recognize the files due to the fact that Windows CE doesn't ready Chinese. Any methods?

Alrighty, somewhere along the way I messed up. Trying to get back to factory defaults for everything so I can at least use the Navcam software. Could anyone link me or hook me up with the files from the Original Navcam CD? Thanks in Advance!

My navcam battery didn't last long now. If i didn't use it for a couple of days, it won't retain the temporary settings like desktop shortcuts. I had to manually update my shortcuts and run the gps software.
My solution was to use mortscript (http://www.sto-helit.de/index.php) . I call this script through registry at start up. This automatically updates my desktop shortcuts and runs the software Igo.

To use the script use PNA folder in mortscript download and rename the autorun.exe to anything like start.exe and create a new file start.mscr and put the script in this file.

I am posting the script for reference. you can modify it

#This script restore a clean shortcuts to windows
If (DirExists("\MyStorage\links"))
	Delete "\Windows\Desktop\*.lnk"
	XCopy "\MyStorage\links\*.lnk", "\Windows\Desktop\"
EndIf

# Run iGO and run taskbar after exit
RunWait \MyStorage\igo\iGO.exe
run \MyStorage\tools\Taskbar.exe

exit

Now with battery dead (hard reset) I just plug in the power turn and I am ready to go.
